Chief of Station

Director Jesse V. Johnson has delivered some of the best action flicks over the years including Triple Threat, Avengement, Savage Dog, Accident Man and recently the most excellent Boudica: Queen of War. His latest film Chief of Station teams him up with another great cast including his Boudica star Olga Kurylenko along with Aaron Eckhart, Alex Pettyfer, Nick Moran, Chris Petrovski, Daniel Bernhardt, James Faulkner, Laetitia Eido, Isobel Wood and Nina Bergman. Could this latest keep the action success going or will it fail to complete its mission?
Chief of Station follows a former CIA European Station Chief, Ben’s world comes crumbling down after his wife, a former operative, dies in a terrible accident. But after receiving cryptic information that his wife’s death might not have been an accident, Ben heads back into the shadowy underworld of Eastern Europe, teaming up with a former adversary to unravel a conspiracy that challenges everything he thought he knew about his wife and the Agency he worked at for more than 20 years.
Johnson has developed a successful formula with his films bringing forth a good pace of the drama and action while never getting bogged down or boring. This flick is no different and even though it’s not one of his martial arts heavy films I prefer it still offers up plenty of well executed action and plot twists to entertain.
The story is a typical spy action thriller trying to solve the mystery of what is going on complete with twists, betrayal and revelations that push the narrative forward in a way that entertains.
