Through the years there have been so many iconic sci-fi films including the obvious ones like Star Wars, Star Trek, Aliens and more. In 1999 Red 2 director Dean Parisot brought some laughs to the sci-fi genre with Galaxy Quest starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Rockwell and the late great Alan Rickman. The film has gone on to cult status and now Paramount is celebrating its 25th anniversary and bringing it to 4K for the first tme ever.

Galaxy Quest follows the sci-fi adventure series "Galaxy Quest" that took place aboard the intergalactic spaceship NSEA Protector. Eighteen years after their series was canceled, actors Jason Nesmith, Gwen DeMarco, Sir Alexander Dane, Tommy Webber and Fred Kwan (along with Guy Fleegman) are making appearances in costume and character at sci-fi conventions and electronic store openings. The cast members are wallowing in despair and at each other's throats until aliens known as Thermians arrive and, having mistaken the series for reality and consequently modeling their entire culture around this, take them into outer space to save them from the genocidal warlord General Sarris.

I remember seeing this film in theaters and being blown away by not only

the sheer fun of it all, but also that it still had put a lot of work in to create a great sci-fi flick. This film holds up all the better today poking fun at the varying franchises while paying homage to them in a way that just works for everyone on both sides of the stars. Everyone here is so good, but for me it’s Rickman that steals the show. His dead pan deliver and overall annoyance through most of the film is hilarious. Making references to the clichéd moments that have happened through the world of Star Trek are genius and makes this classic all the more entertaining.

Outside of the comedy of it all there is still a pretty great sci-fi film here as well. I love all the alien designs here with the bad aliens being my favorites. There is plenty of action and fun throughout the film that holds up today. Whether you are already a fan or just now discovering it this is a must have edition for everyone.

In addition to this classic comedy, this release offers up new and legacy bonus content including trailer, deleted scenes, featurettes and more. Celebrate the 25th anniversary and grab your copy of Galaxy Quest when it hits 4K and 4K Steelbook for the first time ever on December 3rd from Paramount Home Entertainment.
