The Terminator 4K        review by Bobby Blakey

Before Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron teamed up for their action comedy True Lies they kicked off the franchise The Terminator that has since spawned numerous sequels, comics, toys and a recent anime on Netflix. Now the film that started it all The Terminator from 1984 is getting the 4K treatment.

The Terminator follows a cyborg assassin, disguised as a human, known as a Terminator, who travels from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor. Sent to protect Sarah is Kyle Reese, who divulges the coming of Skynet, an artificial intelligence system that will spark a nuclear holocaust. Sarah is targeted because Skynet knows that her unborn son will lead the fight against them. With the virtually unstoppable Terminator in hot pursuit, she and Kyle attempt to escape.

This is another of those films that has been reviewed a thousand times, but still holds up in all its sci-fi action perfection. I remember seeing this film in the theaters as a kid and being blown away by what Cameron created. Even now when watching it I still marvel at the creativity, ingenuity and perfection of the film as it stands even when some elements come off a bit dated.

This new hi-def version of the film helps to clean it up a bit, but also tends to showcase some of the dated effects a little too much. This doesn’t ruin anything in the film as that is part of the charm and perfection of how it was created and wouldn’t want it any other way. No matter what quality this film is it still kicks ass, and this new version just makes it all the better.

Despite his Terminator character having zero emotions, Schwarzenegger

created a terrifying force to be feared that dominated every moment on screen. While Terminator 2 gives him more to do and makes him the hero, I will forever love the silent menace of this original film in all his chaotic violent perfection.

Return to the beginning of Skynet and The Terminator available now on 4K for the first time on from Warner Bros Discovery Home Entertainment.
