Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl review by Bobby Blakey

I love all things stop motion animation and one of the best studios to do it is Aardman. The last few years they have been bringing their films straight to Netflix in the US including A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon and Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. Now they are bringing their famed duo to Netflix with the new feature Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, but does it bring all the usual antics fans love from the inventor and his best canine friend or will it fail to upload the laughs?
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl follows Gromit's concern that Wallace has become over-dependent on his inventions proves justified, when Wallace invents a "smart gnome" that seems to develop a mind of its own. As events spiral out of control, it falls to Gromit to put aside his qualms and battle sinister forces - or Wallace may never be able to invent again.
For those hardcore fans of Wallace & Gromit, this new film is not only an all-new story, but also a follow up to the popular short The Wrong Trousers from 1993 featuring the villainous penguin, Feathers McGraw. If you have never seen the episode and have no idea anything about this, have no fear it gives enough context to still be able to jump right into the fun adventure here.
I am continually amazed at the insane amount of detail that Aardman is able to inject into their projects. This film once again shows their immense talent and ability to do this form of animation at the highest level. The opening of this film alone is amazing and worth the entire feature in all its creative ways of just getting Wallace up in the morning and showing his routine through his inventions.
Taking the deep dive back into their archive makes the film’s story bigger and
allows them to not only deliver something fresh and new but gives the hardcore fans that bit of nostalgia of fun. It’s the kind of story that could work with or without the return of McGraw with some tweaks, but all the better for having this great character return. While he doesn’t speak a word, they manage to give McGraw so much character and such joy to see him back.
The animation is as brilliant as ever with them pulling out all the stops to deliver yet another genius stop-motion animation. Every little detail is fantastic and offers up another layer all its own. You can spend all day just looking at everything they put together to create these locales and make for a visual buffet. The jokes are all hilarious, the action and adventure is fun and the connection between Wallace & Gromit is better than ever.
Check out their latest chaotic adventure with Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl streaming now on Netflix.
